Over the course of its history, Barcelona has inspired writers the whole world over, who have immortalised the city in their works. Our literary heritage is rich and diverse and continues to grow every day.

Literature has spread far and wide, taking countless avenues throughout the city and reaching the public in all kinds of venues and events, from libraries to the activities in festivals and community events in local cultural centres.  Barcelona is connected to the world. We are culturally linked with cities across the entire globe, sharing cultural projects and demonstrating our support for those whose human rights are under attack, especially in relation to freedom of expression. In addition, we co-operate with cities in developing countries in order to promote libraries and other educational projects.
